(Chicago, IL) — Today, former presidential candidate, Housing and Urban Development Secretary, and Mayor of San Antonio, Texas, Julián Castro, announced his endorsement of Marie Newman for Congress in Illinois’ Third Congressional District.
Sec. Castro gave the following statement: “I’m thrilled to endorse Marie Newman for Congress in Illinois’ Third Congressional District. Marie has been a lifelong fighter for hardworking families like the one she grew up in. Instead of playing Washington politics, Marie will work to ensure the people she represents can get better health care, a good education, and that immigrants will be protected from Trump’s cruel agenda. Marie will be a representative that the people of Illinois’ Third District can trust to listen, empathize, and work to solve the problems they face every day.”
Marie Newman gave the following statement: “I am truly honored to receive Sec. Castro’s endorsement. To have the support of someone whose long career in public service has been defined by putting people first is an inspiration. That principle, putting people first, has been one of the guiding principles of our campaign here in Illinois’ Third District and will be my guiding principle in Washington. We are going to put immigrants first, we are going to put workers and working families first, we are going to put union members first, and we are going to fight for policies that are grounded in equality and opportunity for all people. This means fixing our broken health care system, implementing a pathway to citizenship that is unambiguous and expedient, trusting women, and fighting to build an economy that works for all of us.”
