Momentum is growing for Marie Newman, Democrat for Congress in Illinois’ Third District, as the campaign picks up support
from Chicago’s Mayor Lori Lightfoot, the Chicago Sun-Times and two key members of the Congressional Progressive Caucus

(Chicago, IL) – This morning, just days after Marie Newman received the support of Chicago’s Mayor Lori Lightfoot, the Chicago Sun-Times announced its endorsement of Marie for Congress in Illinois’ Third District.

Also announcing their support of Marie Newman this morning were Congressional Progressive Caucus Members Representative Ayanna Pressley (D-MA) and Caucus Co-Chair Representative Mark Pocan (D-WI).

Chicago Sun Times Endorsement: Marie Newman for Congress in 3rd District Democratic Primary

“Democratic voters in this district deserve to be represented by a consistent fighter for better health care, especially as the Trump administration continues its assault on the Affordable Care Act. Marie Newman, a businesswoman from La Grange, leaves no doubt that she would make that fight.

Our endorsement goes to Newman. Nobody will have to give her a push to champion the values and policies of her own party.”

Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley gave the following statement:

“I’m proud to endorse Marie Newman to represent the IL-03 in Congress. Marie has already been deeply engaged as an advocate in her community – only miles from where I grew up in Chicago – and across the country, on issues from economic inequality to LGBTQ+ rights. I know Marie is committed to continuing to work in partnership with the community to advance policies that will provide equitable access to quality healthcare, ensure universal child care, and create economic opportunity for everyone. It’s time for a pro-community, pro-choice champion in the IL 3rd.”
