ILLINOIS 3RD DISTRICT PROGRESSIVE GROUPS FORM THE COALITION FOR CHANGE IL3 AND ENDORSE MARIE NEWMAN FOR CONGRESS; Newman wins endorsements of several major progressive organizations including Grab the Wheel Western Suburbs, Illinois 123GO, Indivisible Brookfield, Indivisible La Grange/La Grange Park, Indivisible Western Springs, Progressive Democrats of America IL-03, Progressive Indivisible Berwyn, Southwest Suburban Snowflakes, and West Suburban Action League support

Several progressive grassroots groups within the Illinois Third Congressional District have formed the Coalition for Change IL3 and announced their endorsements of Marie Newman for Congress. Newman, a progressive candidate, is running to unseat eight-term incumbent Congressman Dan Lipinski in the March 17th, 2020 Democratic primary.

A formal announcement will take place with representatives from the coalition and Ms. Newman on Wednesday, July 10 at 7:30 AM at the Newman Campaign office at 1415 W 55thSt, Suite 102, Countryside, Illinois.

A La Grange resident, small business owner, and founder of a national anti-bullying non-profit, Ms. Newman advocates for Medicare for All, bridging the income divide, empowering unions, promoting small businesses, protecting Social Security, comprehensive immigration reform, advancing civil rights, and fighting for everybody’s every day.

“Indivisible Western Springs endorsed Marie in the last election cycle, after it was clear she supported our group’s core values. Those same values have been under attack again and again in the time since then, and it is more clear than ever that Marie Newman is the candidate who will accurately represent the citizens of Illinois 3. We’re ready to stand up and show her and the district our support,” remarked Abby McEntee, of Indivisible Western Springs & Surrounding Communities.

“Grassroots movements like the groups in Coalition for Change IL3 have the power to make social change,” said Newman. “These activists pushed Dan Lipinski on $15/hour, immigration, the Equality Act, and more, and together we can continue this positive change. In the wake of Trump’s election, these groups popped up across the Third District and have held our leaders accountable since. I couldn’t be more energized by this major endorsement and the trust these grassroots activists have placed in our campaign,” added Newman. “Together, we will keep fighting income inequality and address the issues that impact everyone’s every day.

The groups that became the Coalition for Change IL3, collectively comprising over 2500 members, have increased their political acumen since 2016 by door-to-door canvassing, phonebanking, postcarding, voter education, and other advocacy and campaigning for progressive candidates and causes across Chicagoland. They formed the Coalition for Change IL3 in the spring of 2019 with concern for the direction the district was headed and the knowledge that change was close to coming from Newman’s near unseating of Lipinski the year before.

“Our members are ready to use our voice and our votes to demand representation that reflects our values. We are sick and tired of Congressmen Lipinski using his seat to drive his own personal conservative agenda, often voting against the interests of his constituents,” said Clare Duggan, of Illinois 123GO.

“Marie Newman has listened to our diverse IL3 community during hundreds of conversations with a wide range of groups. She has translated those concerns into a solid legislative platform. Over the past 3 years, we have seen that she is willing and able to fight for our values in Washington. As a grassroots Coalition for Change IL3, we are prepared to work against the Illinois machine to unseat the outdated Lipinski dynasty.”

The Coalition for Change IL3 met the candidates in the race to unseat Lipinski and identified Marie Newman as the strongest challenger to offer clear solutions for–and service toward the constituents of IL3. “We plan to provide volunteerism, education, media awareness, and mobilization of the electorate throughout the district to make a positive change in IL03 in the 2020 elections,” said Rebecca Davies, of Progressive Democrats of America IL-3.

“We look forward to accomplishing that change with Marie Newman as our new congresswoman in Illinois 3.”

Also running in the 3rd Congressional District in the March 2020 Democratic Primary is firsttime candidate Rashad “Rush” Darwish, a community activist and marketing videographer from Orland Park.
