Rami Malek Wins Best Actor Golden Globe for Bohemian Rhapsody

Rami Malek took home a Golden Globe tonight for his performance as Freddie Mercury in the Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody. He won Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture, Drama over Bradley Cooper, Willem Defoe, Lucas Hedges, and John David Washington.

Bohemian Rhapsody is the highest-grossing music biopic of all time.

The film went through developmental hell before finally making it to theaters. Sacha Baron Cohen was attached to the role of Freddie Mercury before dropping out of the film. Director Bryan Singer was fired before he finished filming and was replaced by Dexter Fletcher. Singer remains credited as the film’s director since he completed the majority of the film.
